Breath. Vision. Pulse. We miss not a single one until wrong visits, unexpected and abrupt. They are natural. They are gifts given on the precious day of man's creation so that we could "be" without thought; the moment just before a dream's arrival.
Some of us live as lungs, as hearts, or as eyelids...reacting to unconscious command to, "Beat. Breath. Blink." We adjust, we assimilate, but don't initiate.
I wonder for how long and how many times we have been content to go through the motions directed to us.
When was the last time you consciously and deeply filled your lungs with the briny smell of the sea on purpose? When was the last time you were awake? Alert. Energized. On fire. AWAKENED. When last were you desperate to shout, "Soul, stir! I want to feel something new!", hungry for your inside to be nearly bursting in full; the filling that comes solely from the intervention in our lives by the Divine.
There are too many of us trudging through life in sepia, waking to beats contrived by computers, then falling nightly into chemically induced slumber.
Our world needs not a single other child cast into it's adventure with a sense of tedium.
It begins in this moment. In this quiet and secret place with Creator God. Within ourselves.
The Holy Spirit breathes into us His very attributes: love, joy, peace... He is everywhere, laying in wait should we venture off the beaten path long enough to accept more of His presence in our day. He is the life-giving breeze. He is "Ruach": God's wind, His very breath.
In the beginning, Ruach hovered over the face of the waters. His very sigh brought land, sea, and all living things into action. "Wake, loved ones", He whispered, as He lovingly set earthly time into motion. He invites us to walk with Him, His sweet scent of love and protection permeating everything we do should we accept the invitation.
I pray you do.
"...He who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and all that comes out of it, who gives breath to its people and life to those who walk on it: I, the Lord have called you to righteousness; I will take hold of your hand...to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison, and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness." Isaiah 42:5-7
1. What is God stirring in your soul right now? Listen.
2. Where and at what times do you feel the closest to Him? Why?
3. What do you need to rearrange this week to get more time with Him?
